There is now an expected outcome from the meeting between the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU and the Federal Government of Nigeria over the eight-month strike on Friday 20th November 2020.
According to the Twitter handle of ASUU, the Minister of Labour Chris Ngige presided over the meeting. One of the first outcomes of the negotiation is that the government agreed to use the old platform before the IPPIS to pay all withheld salaries.
The IPPIS or Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) has been one of the major problemms between ASUU and the FG. Some weeks ago, the president of the association, Professor Ogunyemi, had argued that IPPIS was not designed for the university system.
Thus, it resulted in ignoring negotiated agreements like; unacademic allowances, research journal, and other things. Instead, ASUU says its members would prefer the University Transparency Account System (UTAS).
