Nigerian resident doctors suspend nationwide strike

Recall that Sidomex Entertainment reported a few days ago that the organization had decided to go on strike because a number of their needs were not being met by the government.

The strike started on 15 June following the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum after a series of meetings between the union and the government ended fruitlessly.

The doctors did exclude the medical personnel who were on duty attending to Coronavirus patients. All other medical personnel, however, were required to stop working until their demands were met.

However, NARD has now announced that they have called off the strike less than one week after it started.

The organization made the announcement to journalists in Abuja and it was announced by NARD’s president, Dr Aliyu Sokomba.

The organisation said it took the decision in order to give the government time to fulfil outstanding demands made by NARD.

This is following an appeal by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and other stakeholders.
