Ian Officer Cameron was born on 11 June 1961 to Newton and Marjorie Cameron in Victoria, the British Columbia province of Canada. He grew up with his three siblings Donnell, Brian, and Laura. Cameron spent his childhood in Canada with his family.
However, after finishing high school he decided to enrol in one of the best universities in the world, Stanford University. Besides being popular for its high educational standards, this university was the first school to raise more than one billion dollars in a year.

Before that, he worked for seven years as Washington Senior Producer for “World News Tonight” between 2001 and 2008 with David Muir. In 2010, he announced that he is stepping down from serving as executive producer of the program after two years between 2008 and 2010.
In a note to members of the staff, Cameron mentioned that the work schedule was why he was stepping down. “As many of you know working weekends for the past two years has been difficult for my family. They have been both supportive and enormously patient, but now it’s time for me to return to a more regular schedule,” he wrote.

James Goldston took over from him and continued to host the Sunday show with Amanpour for some years after. ABC News President at the time David Westin mentioned that he was grateful for what Cameron did with the company. “Last spring, he agreed to stay on to help with the introduction of the new version of This Week we began with Christiane. He accomplished what he set out to do, and we are in his debt,” Westin said.
During his time there, Ian O.
