We all know that kissing is one of the social pleasantries used to show affection, well among other things.

But what you might not know is that the collision of lips and tongues that we often take for granted has a whole lot of health benefit many people are unaware of.

So what is so great about kissing?

According to the website, WebMD, the extra exchange of saliva while kissing washes bacteria off your teeth, which can help break down oral plaque. And that is not the only health benefit, during a really passionate kiss, both parties metabolic rate doubles -the parties involved could burn two calories per minute.

In addition to burning calories and helping your oral hygiene, kissing has also been linked to reducing stress. It lowers the stress hormones – cortisol – and boosts the levels of serotonin, which leads to feelings of calm and contentedness.

You might have noticed that kissing gets your heart pumping and that’s a good thing. Your increased heartbeat causes your blood vessels to dilate, getting healthy amounts of blood to your organs and helping to reduce your blood pressure.
