Numerous reports have circulated about the hardship endured by the would-be emigrants including how some of them were auctioned off as slaves by their captors. The situation naturally led to condemnation from many quarters including celebrities who voiced their support to raised awareness of the ugly development. Some such as singer Patoranking also questioned why African leaders have not done anything to help the migrants.
However, it now seems that someone is finally listening as Nigerians numbering two hundred and thirty-nine returned Tuesday night from Libya returned to the country on Tuesday evening. They were received at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos on Libyan Airline plane. Gospel artist/Founder Angel4Life Foundation, Nikki Laoye in collaboration with the Federal Government/IOM(International Organisation for Migration) was at the airport to receive the migrants.
See one of the videos courtesy of Laoye which she captioned:
“Signs of the Cross, touching the tarmac in gratitude to God as they got off the plane tonight.
It was quite emotional seeing this… Heard about their ordeals through the desert, praying to die, no water to drink, thrown into jail and finally given the option to go back to their country… All because they were looking for a better life in Italy/Europe”
