C. Jemison is an American engineer, physician and NASA astronaut. After medical school and a brief general practice, Jemison served in the Peace Corps from 1985 until 1987, when she was selected by NASA to join the astronaut corps.
She was a Mission Specialist on STS-47 which was the 50th space flight of NASA’s Space Shuttle Program. She spent over 190 hours in space, where she conducted experiments on weightlessness and motion sickness.
