1. In 1582, the Gregorian calendar was introduced in Italy and other Catholic countries
The Gregorian calendar, which is used by most civilised nations replaced the Julian calendar. It is a 365-day (common year) calendar divided into 12 months. 11 of the months have either 30 or 31 days, while the second month, February, has only 28 days during the common year.
2. In 1962, the Beatles released their first single
The Beatles released their first single in the UK titled Love Me Do (released on a 45RPM Single Format on Parlophone Label), which climbed the chart to #17. It was later released in the US in 1964 and got to #1.

3. In 2012, Orlando Cruz came out as gay
Puerto Rican boxer Orlando Cruz became the first active boxer to publicly come out as gay. Cruz made his announcement just weeks before his Featherweight title fight against Jorge Pazos.
4. In 2016, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs died
The visionary co-founder of Apple Computers, Steve Jobs, died after battling pancreatic cancer for several years. The 56-year-old former CEO had resigned prior to his death leading to speculation that his health had made a turn for the worse. Upon hearing the news, his fans and his company immediately set up memorials and tributes at Apple stores and on the internet.
