Superstar Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde talked to GlamAfrica about her three-year hiatus from acting and how the movie Alter Ego compelled her to end it.
“Alter Ego” is a movie that talked about posttraumatic stress disorder (PSTD), children sexual abuse and rape, in a bid to bring awareness to these societal scourges. In the movie, Omotola played the character of Ada Igwe, a highly successful human right lawyer who was bent on bringing offenders to justice – but she has her own demons plaguing her. Nevertheless, she seemed to be winning but is everything what it seems? Will Ada Igwe’s past forever haunt her? Will she give in to intimidation and threats or will she find the courage and will to stand her convictions?

Omotola is a human rights activist in her spare time, so it easy to see why she got involved in the Alter Ego movie project. Hear what Omotola had to say on first seeing the script:
“When I got the script, I wasn’t actually ready to go back to the big screen, but I liked the script and story. A lot of people don’t talk about PTSD and mental illness in Nigeria, and I like to bring attention to such issues…. I wanted something meaningful, the kind of project that I would be proud of having helped create.”
