5 things you need to know about the movie, Downton Abbey

It’s true, folks. You haven’t seen the last of the Crawleys, the aristocratic family you obsessed over for 5 years.

Downton Abbey, the award-winning tv series will hit theatres on September 2019. The series ran for six seasons – from 2010 – 2015 – and in that time earned 3 Golden Globes and 15 Emmy Awards. So what is better than making such a series into a movie, right?

Here’s what we know about the movie so far:

#1. Downton Abbey the movie will be released on September 20, 2019. Focus Features announced this noting that Universal Pictures International will release the film on September 13for those who live in North America.

#2. Most of the main cast will be back to reprise their TV roles in the film. Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Joanne Froggatt, Elizabeth McGovern, and Maggie Smith, to name a few. Although some new faces will also be featured.

#3. The show creator, Julian Fellowes, will write and produce the film. Honestly, can you imagine anyone else in this role? Other members of the behind-the-scenes club include producers Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge and director Michael Engler.

#4. Production began on 10 September 2018.

#5. Matthew Crawley might make an appearance – but in what form? Recall that his character was killed off in a car accident at the end of season 3. But maybe he can visit Mary and their son George in ghost form? Fingers crossed!

How excited are you about this new development?
