Today, Kensington Palace announced that Meghan and Harry do not want gifts from the people attending their wedding celebrations. According to a Palace spokesperson, the couple does not have any formal relationships with the charities chosen.
Instead, they have asked those planning to mark the occasion of their wedding to donate to one of the below charities.
- Children’s HIV Association (CHIVAS): A charity organisation which supports children growing up with HIV and their families, across the U.K. and Ireland.
- Crisis: A charity for homelessness.
- Myna Mahila Foundation: Empowering women in Mumbai’s slums.
- Scotty’s Little Soldiers: A charity for bereaved Armed Forces children.
- Street Games: A charity which uses sport to empower young people to kick-start a cycle of positive change in their own lives.
- Wilderness Foundation UK: A charity organisation which promotes the benefits & enjoyment of wild nature. Through the great outdoors, the charity helps build resilience in vulnerable teenagers & introduces rural employment to the urban youth.
- Surfers Against Sewage: A national marine conservation and campaigning charity, which inspires, unites and empowers communities to take action to protect oceans, beaches, waves and wildlife.
A statement from the Palace issued via Twitter reads:
“The couple have personally chosen 7 charities which represent a range of issues that they are passionate about, including sport for social change, women’s empowerment, conservation, the environment, homelessness, HIV and the Armed Forces.
