Balotelli wasn’t down that the senator had run under a party that is known for its anti-immigration stand, namely the Lega Party.
The newly elected senator, himself was an immigrant from Nigeria who has been living in Italy since 1976, so the irony wasn’t lost on many, not on Balotelli anyway. He promptly took to Instagram to call out the senator, writing: “Maybe I’m blind or maybe they haven’t told him yet that he’s black – what a disgrace!”
That was below the belt, but somebody had to say it.
Of course, everyone wants to know what the senator had to say to that glaring public attack, we got to hear it during an appearance the senator made at Radio Capital.
Iwobi replies: “I’d rather just ignore him. I’m not interested in what he writes. I have to deal with enough controversy. I just want to think about my territory and the new role I’ve been elected to.
“He’s a great footballer and he will remain one, but I hope he sticks to his job, considering that’s what he is good at.”
Which is kind of a condescending response as if being good at one thing denies one the ability to analyse current affairs. Tsk.
