As fans of popular American comedy Coming to America awaits the sequel more than 30 years after the first film made its appearance in 1988, sports apparel giant Nike is set to release limited-edition sneakers inspired by the iconic, Oscar-nominated movie.
Pretty smart, eh?
And to top the savvy move, Nike has tapped Nigerian-Greek NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo as the face of the campaign. Giannis is right at the top of his games right this time, not only winning the 2019 Most Valuable Player in NBA but was also voted Best Male Athlete at the Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (ESPY) Awards this July.
“You know I had to reveal these in NYC! Launching 8/2,” writes Giannis on the ‘Gram alongside a photo of the limited-edition sneakers. “Nike Air Zoom Freak 1 Coming to America,” he adds.

A tweet by Nike’s media relations director, Josh Benedek, provides more insight into the collaboration. The tweet explains that the collection celebrates the similarities and differences between Antetokounmpo and Prince Akeem’s stories. And obviously, Paramount Pictures are on board the project or else might Nike might have to explain copyright issues.
