According to Variety, the rapper is preparing a biopic after securing the rights to Gaye’s musical catalogue and the approval of the Gaye family estate.
Gaye was murdered by his father on 1 April 1984. Passing away at 44 years old, the young legend left behind famous tracks, such as Sexual Healing, Ain’t no Mountain High Enough and Let’s Get It On.

Numerous artists, including F. Gary Gray, Cameron Crowe, Scott Rudin and Lenny Kravitz, have already tried to resuscitate Marvin in movie format, and they’ve all been forced to give up.
Two years ago, a documentary project entitled Marvin, What’s Going On? was announced. In an attempt to retrace the singer’s life, directors Gabriel Clarke and Torquil Jones wanted to include interviews and archive images provided by his family in their film. This was the first time Gaye’s relatives had given permission for a similar initiative. However, no release date was ever scheduled.
During the same year, Jamie Foxx announced a series dedicated to the prince of soul. But his project also appears to be having problems.
