Adele and Oprah Winfrey’s interview reveals new details about her divorce, weight loss, son, Taylor Swift, and new boyfriend – Rich Paul.

Grammy-award-winning singer Adele and chat host had a sit-down that was exclusively released as a CBS special. The two influential women were notably in the same garden where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also had their own interview several months ago.

The broadcast was expertly cut-and-play footage of both her Griffith Observatory performance and the Oprah chat. It was the first time that the 33-year-old singer performed new tracks from her forthcoming 30 album and also talked about it as well.

Here are 5 new details we gleaned from the interview because Oprah has never disappointed in drawing out as much information from superstars as possible:

1. Weight loss was a way of dealing with her anxiety

Perhaps the most shocking of announcements the singer made in the past two years was her new appearance. BBC says she lost nearly 45 kilograms, and her explanation has nothing to do with the many speculations that have been flying around.

Adele told Oprah that she had started hitting the gym more frequently because she was less anxious when she was working out. “I had the most terrifying anxiety attacks after I left my marriage. They [paralyzed] me completely and made me so confused because I wouldn’t be able to have any control over my body,” she said.

However, since she had always been plus-size since debuting on the music scene, some fans who were in the same body category as her felt hurt that she abandoned them to fit into society’s categorization of ‘hot girl’.

“I feel bad that it’s made anyone feel horrible about themselves – but that’s not my job. I’m trying to sort my own life out. I can’t add another worry,” the singer clarified.

2. Adele’s divorce

Her divorce from Simon Konecki, her husband of three years, also came up during the discussion. Oprah threw a self-berating line from “Hold On”, off her forthcoming album, at her and asked for an explanation. Adele confirmed that she did feel like her own worst enemy during her divorce. She also mentioned that she had no plan of ending her marriage while getting into it or becoming a single parent.

However, her friends encouraged her not to let go, and it was from there that she coined the title of the aforementioned track.

3. Her son

Adele’s son believes Taylor Swift is a bigger superstar than her because he attended her Reputation stadium tour in 2018 and was shocked at the number of people who attended. Meanwhile, he had only gone to his mother’s rehearsals at stadiums, and the empty seats did not impress. It was only when he saw how many people watched the “Easy On Me” video countdown on YouTube that he understood Adele’s star power.

“‘There was 150,000 people waiting!’ [sic]” she claims her son said. “Then he read the comments, and he was like, ‘People really like you!'”

4. Taylor Swift

It is funny that Adele mentions Taylor Swift in her first interview back because they seem like the biggest rivals in their industry. On 30 September 2021, after it became public that Taylor Swift was moving up her Red (Taylor’s Version) album release date, fans began speculating that the “Blank Space” singer did so to avoid releasing the same week as the “Hello” crooner’s 30 anticipated project.

However, her discussion with Oprah did not venture into what really transpired behind the scenes. What we can say is that Adele and Taylor Swift have been really close friends. Also, it shows as Adele mentioned taking her six-year-old to Swift’s concert in 2018.

5. New boyfriend – Rich Paul

Another area where the chat did not touch – but we wanted it to – was Adele’s new boyfriend, Rich Paul. We, the people, are dying to hear what the singer has to say about her new lover since his identity became known to the public. Likely, the cat will be let out of the bag soon enough. While she didn’t give us the juicy details of her love life, she did help one man propose to his girlfriend during her performance.

She sang “Make You Feel My Love” while the man popped the question to his shocked partner, who said yes in a pool of tears.

There is as much information in silence as there is in its absence. The fact that Adele kept mum about both the rumored Taylor Swift rivalry and her boyfriend may mean there is nothing to discuss there. Regardless, it heightens the anticipation for her 19 November release.
