On this week’s entertainment roundup, I touch on Davido giving accountability on his viral 250 million Naira orphanage donation, the upcoming Teen Wolf movie, new music, and Kanye West’s IG rants.
Davido gives accountability on orphanage donation
On 17 November 2021, in what was supposed to be a harmless bant-like tweet, Nigerian Singer Davido made headlines as he racked up over 200 million Naira from his fans and friends. He had jokingly requested money from anyone who previously collaborated with him to get to a hit song.
The singer shared several screenshots of supposed fans and friends sending him money following the tweet. Within two days, he announced making 200 million Naira. Then, he followed up by revealing his plan to donate everything to orphanages across the country with an addition of 50 million Naira of his own money.
In February, this past week, three months later, Davido claimed to have disbursed the money as planned.
However, famous Twitter user Daniel Regha demanded an update on how the superstar shared the money.
Davido is yet to update the public regarding the N250m he donated, Feb. 15th marks two months he promised to give an update. If truly the money has been disbursed, Davido should make an official statement with a full detail of how each dime was spent. People are entitled to know.

Within hours, Davido responded with a statement alongside names of different orphanages around the country who received what percentage of the money.

The Singer closes the week by announcing his upcoming live show at the O2 arena in London, scheduled to hold on 5 March 2022.

Teen Wolf Movie revival
Something about television series produced in the 2010s had young people like myself in quite a chokehold. American Supernatural series like The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Teen Wolf, and a couple of others helped me navigate my early naive teenage years. They helped open my imagination to a world of fantasy, with their plot mostly centered around horror, adolescent relationship, and identity. A lot of young people were heavily invested in these television programs. Now, crossing over from the 2010s into the 2020s, and with several streaming platforms available, there continue to be several attempts at reviving some of these shows. Lately, we’ve seen the remake and reboot of the popular Gossip Girl from HBO Max, and now the ever-green 2011 television series Teen Wolf is getting a second chance; this time, as a movie, according to Deadline.

Teen Wolf Movie will stream on Paramount+, and Tyler Posey (Scott McCall) is set to return and reprise his previous lead role. However, Dylan O’Brien, who played one of the most underrated characters (Stiles Stilinski), will not be in the movie. In addition, Arden Cho, who played Kira (the main character’s girlfriend from season 3 to 5), will also not be featured in the new movie alongside Tyler Hoechlin (he played Derek Hale and was kind of a mentor to Scott). Other cast members confirmed for the film are Holland Roden (Lydia), Linden Ashby (Sherif Stilinski a.k.a Stiles Father), Colton Haynes (Jackson), Ryan Kelley (Deputy Parrish), Shelley Hennig (Malia), Crystal Reed (Allison), Melissa Ponzio (Scott’s mother) and Dylan Sprayberry (Liam). As much as I look forward to this movie, I am also quite disappointed Stiles won’t be making an appearance because he was one of the original characters whose sense of humor made the show stand out from its overly dramatic suspense-filled aura.
We look forward to how this new movie plans to up the show’s teenage-like charm, given that it’s been five years since the show ended. All six seasons of Teen Wolf are available on Apple TV and Netflix for streaming.
New music from Asa, Simi, Zinoleesky, Blaqbonez, Asake, and Teezee, plus Buju’s name change
Fridays are known to be new music days, and this past Friday was no exception. Here is a breakdown of some of the new music that dropped…
Nigerian singer and songwriter Simi follows up her 2021 single “Woman” with a new song titled “Sare.” Produced by Type A, the singer yearns for love and everything that comes with it in this new jam. Listen to “Sare” by Simi here:
Asa returns with new music as promised! Earlier in February, the prolific singer and songwriter announced her upcoming live show in Lagos (scheduled for May). On Friday, “Ocean,” her new single, dropped on streaming platforms. Shifting away from her melancholic sound, the 39-year-old singer settles for a cheery beat as she personifies her lover to an ocean, as the song title says. The four-minute visual was also released alongside the song, directed by Meji Alabi. Listen to Asa new song and watch its video here:
Zinoleesky adds to his stack of hit singles with “Rocking,” teaming up with producer Niphkeys for this new banger. Groove to it here:
