For the passengers in the Airbus A380 at London’s Heathrow airport, they must have been ecstatic for the capabilities of their pilot, especially as storm Dennis raged around them.
Storm Dennis has raged for days in the UK killing at least one person with hundreds of homes swept away by the storm. The most affected areas include south Wales, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire in London.
In a situation which will not be the first of its kind (but is really quite rare), the pilot was forced to make a crab landing at the airport due to the strong forces of the wind.
The crab landing is named after the sideways way that crabs move. It is mostly used by pilots when landing in unfavourable weather.
