A teacher trained in gun use accidentally discharged a gun while he was giving a lesson on public safety at a California high school.
The teacher had the gun pointed towards the ceiling when it discharged, according to the Hill.
The school seems to be taking the accident very seriously and has placed the teacher on administrative leave until an investigation is completed.
“The safety of your student is always our top priority, and we will continue to remain vigilant in our efforts to keep them safe while they are under our care,” a letter to parents partly reads.
The seaside police chief, Abdul Pridgen. reportedly says: “a student was struck by debris or fragmentation from something overhead.”:

“The student wasn’t hit with a bullet and it wasn’t life-threatening,” he adds.
The teacher is no stranger to guns and actually serves as a reserve police officer for Sandy City and Seaside city councilman.
His last gun safety training was “a little less than a year ago,” according to the chief.
