Nigeria’s National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos, has banned the sale of alcoholic drinks at motor parks

This is to reduce the rate of car accidents caused by drunk drivers.

According to Tajudeen Agbede, the state Chairman of NURTW, on Monday 5, December 2017, the union has set up a task force to enforce the ban in various motor parks across the state.

“We don’t want to experience any form of accidents on the highways as a result of alcoholic drinks during the festive period.

“We have four units of the task force going around the motor parks, at least three times a week, to enforce the ban on sales of alcoholic drinks within and outside our parks,” he said.

He added that this ban will continue even after the festivities and pleaded with commuters to use the park instead of boarding unsafe vehicles by the roadside.
