A team of seven doctors led by one Dr Kigbu have partially succeeded in separating conjoined twins at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi State.

The male died but the female is said to be responding well to treatment.

The surgery was carried out under the auspices of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara. 50,000 beneficiaries from the 20 local governments of the state are expected to receive medical treatment under the Speaker’s sponsorship.

An unnamed member of the medical team reportedly said the surgery took two hours to perform, the Nations reports.

He says: “Ordinarily, it could cost the parents over N2 million or more to carry out the operation in a private facility. The two-hour operation was conducted by seven surgeons, doctors and other medical personnel.”
