The user, Ifeanyi Nsofor? (@ekemma), says he is “deeply disappointed” that schools are still teaching “women are only good for doing home chores.”
His tweet: “Doing English comprehension homework with my 5-year old daughter. Father goes to work. Daughter goes to school. Mum stays at home to clean the house. Deeply disappointed that Nigerian textbooks still push this narrative of women only good for doing home chores. This must change.”
When probed to explain further, Nsofor, replies: “Kids go to school. Mother goes to work. Father goes to work. Everyone does house chores.”
A user explains that the textbook reflects the societal perspective, suggesting that a change of perspective may not have registered hugely in the consciousness of the majority.
Another user also narrates how his daughter was marked wrong after she answered that her father was the one that cooks. This user said he had to go the school to explain to the teacher and “changed the narratives.”
