The Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello has dismissed rumours that the state government had given N2 million naira and cars to some masquerades in the state, saying he was just hearing it for the first time.
The governor was speaking after the Friday prayer at Aso Rock. While noting that his administration promotes culture, he sarcastically asked whether the masquerades were going to spend the money in the graves since they were supposed to be ancestors of the people.
He says: “I think I’m just hearing that for the first time. But let me just tell you that in Kogi State, first, we promote culture, two we don’t give millions to masquerades.

“In our culture Masquerades are ancestors, I don’t know how a masquerade will go and spend money? Is it in the grave?
“They are supposed to be spirits and I don’t know how masquerades will spend money. There is nothing of that nature at all,’’ he adds.
