InvaderVie has over 200 thousand followers on Twitch. One thing to note is that in order to start making money on Twitch, you need to become an affiliate.

An affiliate needs 50 followers, 500 total minutes broadcast in 30 days, seven unique broadcast days over 30 days, and an average of three concurrent viewers over 30 days.

To actually earn a lot of money you need to be a Twitch partner.

InvaderVie Controversy

InvaderVie got into quite a lot of trouble after sharing an offensive video in which she accused her subscribers of being poor and said that they need to find jobs instead of streaming videos on Twitch.

At the time of the controversy, she had 174 thousand (174,000) followers on Twitch.

In the original video, she said that 10 dollars ($10) is something that every Twitch viewer should have. Before adding said that she is not asking for too much, and is not even asking for 20 dollars ($20).

“If you don’t have $10 dollars, you probably shouldn’t be watching Twitch, you should be working. It’s not a ton of money,” she said in the stream.

Viewers did try to call her attention to her insensitive statements in the comments section, but she dismissed their statements and called them “immature children” and “cheapskates”. She doubled down despite the comments saying, “No one’s going to convince me that what I’m saying is so rude, or so unacceptable, or so outrageous. It just simply isn’t.”

The worst part of all this is that she made the comments during the COVID-19 pandemic when many people lost their jobs after several lockdowns were imposed in many parts of the world.

A lot of people felt that what she said was doubly insensitive because of the time that she said it. They reacted negatively to her comments, called her names, and made several reaction videos to her own offensive video.

InvaderVie’s actions were in direct violation of Twitch’s Community Guidelines. She broke at least two rules, ‘Hateful Conduct and Harassment’ and ‘Unauthorized Sharing of Private Information’.

According to Twitch’s guidelines, any attempt to intimidate, degrade, abuse, bully others, or creates a hostile environment for others is strictly prohibited and could result in a user getting banned. However, she narrowly escaped being publicly banned from the platform.

She received so much backlash due to her video that she now appears to have left social media completely. On Instagram, she has almost 58 thousand followers, but she has not shared a post since last year. On Twitter, where she still has over 18 thousand followers, and the situation is the same.

The only tweets on her Twitter timeline are automatic alerts that tell users when she is live-streaming on Twitch. When the backlash became too much for her, she made another video to apologise for her comments.

“What I said was tone-deaf, insensitive, and stupid,” InvaderVie said in the video. “I recognize that there is no context I could give that would excuse what I said. I can only own what I said, and I will.”

In the video, she changed her tune, saying that her comments from the earlier video did not represent how she truly feels.

“The clip that you saw does not represent my true feelings. I’ve streamed for hundreds of hours and I’ve said, ‘support communities after you support yourself first. Subscribe if you have the disposable income to do so.’ But in that clip, I expressed opinions that I do not hold, at all. I said things that I don’t mean, and they were vile,” she said.

She went further to say that she takes responsibility for her statement and apologised to all those she hurt.

InvaderVie has since returned to Twitch, where she now has over two hundred thousand (200,000) followers (more than she had before the controversial stream). Even people who are unfamiliar with her and her streams began searching for her as Twitch girl because of the scandal.

She has still not returned to any of her social media platforms, and on Instagram, many of the old comments are still visible. On Twitch, she has returned to playing games and chatting with fans the way she used to, and it seems like Twitch users have forgiven her for her previous comments.
