While the rest of us are on lockdown and agonizing about spending time in our houses, there are some people out there who are making sure that the world is still running with some semblance of normalcy, taking care of the sick and making important deliveries.
To say thank you to these essential workers during this time, a number of gestures have been made including videos and, in particular, a special Google doodle to appreciate their selfless service at this time.
Essential workers include delivery workers, healthcare professionals, janitors, and other workers who are working around the clock to make sure that those on lockdown have what they need to keep the rest of the world safe.
Earlier this month, Google announced that they would spend this month paying homage to essential workers, a move that we all should be emulating.
All over the world, healthcare professionals and delivery personnel have been putting themselves on the line to get essentials to people at home. Some healthcare professionals have even lost their lives in the line of service, including Nigeria’s first known healthcare casualty, Dr. Chugbo Emeka.
On 13 April, Google shared a doodle to say thank you to Coronavirus helpers, including doctors and healthcare professionals, writing: “Doctors, nurses and medical workers, you truly are the nation’s heartbeat. This is for you”
