Estate agent absconds with suya man’s N550,000

The accused, Tajudeen Olukoya, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly collecting N550,000 from the complainant, Alhaji Umar on the pretext of leasing a space to the man for a Suya spot at D’Place Night Club, Lekki, Lagos.

The incident is said to have taken place in September 2017 in Lekki, Lagos State.

Olukoya, who claimed to be an estate agent, resides at Lekki area of Lagos Island and he is facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and obtaining under false pretences. He is said to have committed the offence with others now at large, according to the police prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emuerhi.

The accused collected the money and failed to lease out space as promised and converted the money to personal use.’’  Offences, which contravened Sections 77, 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised),

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 314 stipulates 15 years imprisonment for obtaining money under false pretences. The accused, however, denied the charge.
