Coronavirus in Nigeria update: secondary school students contract the virus

Nigeria has recorded an additional 223 coronavirus cases according to the latest data released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The NCDC made the revelation during its nightly update on coronavirus in Nigeria via its Twitter handle on their 4th of November.

According to the centre, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country now stands at 63,731 confirmed The centre also stated that 59,844 COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged. COVID-19 is the disease caused by the coronavirus, known formally as SARS-Cov-2.

1,154 people have died from COVID-19 related complications. This means that the active number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Nigerians as of the night of Wednesday 4th of November was 2, 498

Two deaths previously recorded in Imo State were erroneously reported.

Meanwhile, the Lagos state government has announced that six people in a secondary school have tested positive for the deadly coronavirus.

Prof. Akin Abayomi, the health commissioner, made this known on Friday, November 6, as the country faces the possibility of the second lockdown amid a surge of new COVID-19 cases.

The commissioner, speaking further, said the first COVID-19 case in the school was detected on Tuesday, November 3rd.

According to him, the school where the cases were discovered is located in the mainland axis of Lagos state.

He added that a member of the school’s staff was confirmed positive, leading to contract tracing as more cases were detected.

#COVID19 infections were confirmed in a secondary boarding school in Lagos.

Steps are being taken to contain the spread within the school and reduce exposure to the outside community.
