Early life and education
Zack was born in Austin, Texas, on 20 April 1991. His father worked as an IRS employee, while his mother was a housewife. He reportedly maintains a close relationship with his mother, and this is obvious from the major decisions he made later in life.

It is unknown whether Zack has siblings as he likes to keep his private life to himself, choosing what to and what not to share with fans. He is also pretty smart and says that he came up with his internet moniker, Asmongold, when he was six or seven years old. He was playing with his friend in the woods, and the two were thinking of code names for each other when Zack created the nickname for himself, and has used the name ever since.
As a child, he had always been an avid gamer. He started playing the Warcraft series in 1997 at age six. In July 2006, he got his hands on a “World of Warcraft” game after someone in his class sold it to him. He quickly forgot about it until later that year when his friends were visiting and saw the game on a shelf.
Zack also has a long history of editing videos, starting from when he was eleven years old and was gifted a camera. As a testament to how close he is to his mother, he abandoned college in 2014 to care for her. Zack was about to go to university when his mother fell sick. He opted to stay back to take care of her.
Career— early jobs and streaming
It was during the period that he was taking care of his ill mother that he started streaming. After his mother got better, Zack returned to business school. After this, he followed in his father’s footsteps and took a job, working for the Internal Revenue Services (IRS).
Zack also had dreams of being a lawyer, so he started applying for law school while working at the IRS.
After some time, he left the IRS and began working at Sam’s Club, a chain of members-only clubs that are owned by Walmart. This job did not catch his fancy, however, and he decided to quit and focus on streaming his games on YouTube.

After some days of doing this, he decided to become a full-time Twitch streamer and thus started Asmongold’s Twitch career. During one of his most popular live streams, he talked about life before he became a Twitch streamer, discussing his post-college life and confessing to his fans that he used to lie on his resume to get a job.
