Lawyers working with the EndSARS protesters found themselves with full hands again on Saturday, 13 February 2021 after the Nigerian police made a series of arrests.
Of the 40 EndSARS protesters picked up at the Lekki Tollgate, legal responders worked to free 27 the same day with 13 left in detention till the next day.
In a follow up to the arrests, Adetola, one of the legal responders, tweeted via his verified Twitter page: “Crazy fact: Our list had 28 people on it. We found out the arrested protesters that the Police took to Panti CID alone were about 40 persons.
“Great thing we have gotten bail for all of them! Now to get their sureties sorted and get them RELEASED!”
He further revealed that the police had charged the 40 EndSARS protesters arrested at Lekki Tollgate with; breaking COVID-19 gathering limits and breaking order not to protest. “All pleaded not guilty,” Adetola said, “and we are getting sureties for them.”
In addition, one of the arrested persons was seriously injured and had to get medical help speedily. By the end of Saturday, 13 February 2021, the lawyers had bailed all 40 but could not secure the release of them all.
Thus, only 27 persons could go home and spend the night with their family and loved ones. “The remaining 13 will be released tomorrow morning once we can able to locate their sureties,” the lawyer announced.
