A British man has pleaded guilty to premeditated murder after he stabbed his ex-girlfriend multiple times and killed her. The court heard that he didn’t want to pay child support.
The incident happened on a London street in May this year. Mark Morris, 39, and 33-year-old Emma Day dated for eight years when their relationship broke down. Their only child together, a girl then went to live with her mother Emma. Emma subsequently requested child support for their child from her Morris who said he couldn’t afford to pay.

On the day of the attack, Emma had requested a friend to walk home with her with her children. She told the friend that Morris had been around and that he had made her feel nervous because he was so unpredictable, the court was told. Morris emerged from an alleyway and approached them and begged Day not to make him pay child support because he was in debt. When she refused, he started calling her names.

At this point, the friend sent the children away as she didn’t want them to witness any violence against their mother. As nothing was being resolved between them, Day decided to go home as she said that she needed to give the children their dinner. She had a child from another relationship.

Emma and her friend started working home and Morris dropped a bag he was carrying and rushed towards Emma with a knife in his hand, which he used to stab her. The friend rushed to her defence but he continued to stab her. The friend eventually managed to get him off and he ran away. The friend then called 999.
Officers attended and searched the area, finding a bag with a number of items inside belonging to Morris – including correspondence from the Child Maintenance Service. The murder weapon was also recovered nearby.
