[Video highlight] Novak Djokovic defeats Rafael Nadal in epic showdown

Novak Djokovic has progressed to the French Open finals by eliminating tennis juggernaut, Rafael Nadal. In what has been described as an epic face-off, it was the world’s number 1 in men’s single who came out victorious ahead of the number 3 seed.

The match which went on for a strenuous four hours saw Nadal handed his first defeat in a Paris semifinal. It was the perfect rematch for Djokovic as fans will remember Nadal bested him to clinch the trophy at the last French Open.

Nadal won the first set 6-3 and Djokovic took the second set 6-3 followed by the third set 7-6 and the fourth set 6-2. The match was the 9th between the two in the French Open, and the 58th meeting in all competitions.

In his post match interview, Djokovic said it is a privilege to play against Nadal. “You tell yourself no pressure, but there is a lot of pressure. Trust me,” he said. “Pressure is a privilege,” he added.

The other men’s semifinal was played between Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev of Germany. Tsitsipas saw off his opponent after five sets to become the first Greek player to ever advance to a Grand Slam finals, according to AFP.

Nadal and Federer are currently tied at 20 Grand Slam wins each. Despite Novak Djokovic having 18 wins, he has only won the French Open once. This may well be his second, if Tsitsipas allows it. We won’t wait long to see how things turn out. Good luck to both athletes, and may the best man win.
