Pandemonium broke out after news emerged that a number of suspected criminals broke free out of the hands of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Bayelsa State.

According to a policeman who remained anonymous during his interview, the cell that was used by the Anti-robbery squad would be able to hold at least 50 inmates and the incident had occurred before the amount of arrested suspects was taken down.

He said it is impossible to give an accurate number but the cell is now empty although one of the escapees was caught before disappearing.

They had broken out through the back section of the cell that led into the Yenogoa Local Government premises and they had escaped into the compound by scaling the fence bordering the two buildings.

The Police spokesman for the State, DSP Asinin Butswat, confirmed the prison break but agreed that the information available are unclear and it would take some time before the press can have concrete news on the development as all efforts are being put into capturing everyone of the suspects that escaped.
