Burna Boy did not win the coveted Grammy award for ‘Best World Music album’ as many Nigerians hoped.

Instead, the award went to Beninese music great, Angelique Kidjo for her album, Celia. The music great beat Burna Boy and a host of other singers to win the award at the 2020 Grammys.

During her acceptance speech, she graciously dedicated it to the self-proclaimed African giant.

“The new generation of artists coming from Africa are going to take you by storm and the time has come.”

“This is for Burna Boy, [he] is among those young artists [who] came from Africa [who] are changing the way our continent is perceived, and the way African music has been the bed rock for every [type] of music,” she said during the speech.

Burna has frequently expressed how much of an Angelique Kidjo fan he is, so much that the two collaborated on the song, ‘Different’ off his ‘African Giant’ album.
