The BET Hip Hop Awards 2021 saw Tyler, the Creator, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, and Lil Baby as its big winners.
It’s little wonder that Cardi B made it to the list of the biggest winners of the awards show. In 2018, the hip hop artist was one of the biggest winners alongside Drake, Pharrell Williams, Childish Gambino and Kendrick Lamar.
The awards show, which aired on Tuesday, 5 October 2021, on BET, was pre-recorded on Friday, 1 October 2021, at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta. It was hosted by Karlous Miller, DC Young Fly and Chico Bean.
The ceremony also recognised accomplishments by hip-hop artists’ work in the past years with its special “I Am Hip Hop” award. This year’s event honoured Nelly with the award in recognition of his 20 years of working in the industry.
Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B led the field, netting three wins for “WAP” across nine nominations. The two won in the categories of Song of the Year, Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Collaboration.
Tyler, the Creator, was honoured with the inaugural Cultural Influence Award, and he also won Hip Hop Album of the Year. Lil Baby won multiple awards, including Artist of the Year. While Yung Bleu was named Best New Hip Hop Artist, and J. Cole was named Lyricist of the Year. Find the full list of winners below (via Billboard).

The ceremony also featured performances by Baby Keem, Young Thug, Lil Jon, Bia, Doechii, Gunna, Isaiah Rashad, Kal Banx, Latto, Paul Wall and Tobe & Fat Nwigwe. Nelly closed out the show with a performance of his greatest hits.
