They have been the subject of a lot of conversation, for their music and for the confusion that their relationship has caused their millions of fans.
It started as a slow, simmering curiosity as the two continued to share snippets of their special friendship, but it soon graduated into a full-blown curiosity and this was most likely caused by the release of the video for Wizkid’s 2018 hit song, ‘Fever’.
In the video for ‘Fever’, Tiwa Savage played a sultry video vixen as well as Wizkid’s love interest. The two were so chummy together in the video that it started a weeks-long conversation on social media.
Several people shared their opinions on Twitter and Instagram while wondering what was going on with the two.
We have compiled a comprehensive breakdown of their relationship from the very beginning until now far extra curious fans who want to get the scoop on the relationship between Wizkid and Tiwa Savage.
How the relationship between Tiwa Savage and Wizkid started
Tiwa Savage and Wizkid must have met sometime in or before 2011 because the songstress appeared in the video for Wizkid’s 2011 song, ‘Pakurumo’. Many kicked at Tiwa being in the song, saying her appearance in the video was needless, but she did appear in the video.
In this video, Tiwa Savage and Wizkid showed off a bit of PDA as Wizkid grinded Tiwa from behind in the video. The move elicited several amused reactions as people claimed that the much younger Wizkid was overreaching.
Like every other celebrity in the music industry, the two first met each other as colleagues. They first collaborated on the 2016 song, ‘Bad’ from Tiwa Savage’s second album, ‘Red’.
Even from this first video, fans suspected that there was something more between the two as they sang to each other like they understood each other. The chemistry between them was sizzling, but of course, it was too soon to decide so this went ignored.
In the video for ‘Bad’, the glaring age difference between the two was very obvious as Wizkid was growing into his career back then. But by their next collaboration, things were different.
Next, the two singers collaborated on the crowd favourite song, Malo off Tiwa Savage’s EP, ‘Sugarcane’. In this, their chemistry sizzled enough to crackle. For the ‘Malo’ video, it was clear that the friendship between had graduated to a point where they were completely comfortable with each other.
They gyrated around each other, smiling as if at some inside joke that only they knew about. While some fans enjoyed the good music and visuals, others began to get ideas.
In March 2018, rumours began to swirl that the songstress was about to divorce her famous husband, celebrity artist manager, TeeBillz. The two had been through some troubles, include TeeBillz depression and his attempted suicide. A few days after those rumours started spreading on social media, an unbothered Tiwa Savage attended Ushbebe’s comedy show with Wizkid.
The two shared a table, danced with each other, and enjoyed the night, looking for all the world as if they thought they were the only ones in the room.
Wizkid’s birthday shoutout to Tiwa Savage and GidiFest
The most convincing sign came, however, on Tiwa’s birthday that year, in February 2018, when Wizkid shared not one, but five pictures to celebrate the day. Wizkid has always been known to be a low-key celebrity, choosing to stay out of the limelight, except for only important things.
It appears that Tiwa’s birthday was very special to him back then as he shared multiple pictures of her on his Instagram page and called her his ‘Queen’.
“Big birthday shoutout to a Queen!! Our Queen, My Queen! Hard worker!! @tiwasavage,” he wrote.
Some thought it was because of the friendship between the two, but others were sceptical, as Wizkid had never done that for anyone before. More signs of their extraordinary closeness would still come to the limelight, however.
The final breaking point for the doubters came at the 2018 GidiFest festival which took place on Easter Friday, 30 March 2018. During this festival, Tiwa Savage and Wizkid performed some of their songs.
Tiwa Savage climbed the stage first after which she invited Wizkid to the stage. Some time into their performance, the ‘Joro’ singer planted a very cute kiss on her chin. For the doubters, this was the last step needed to end their doubt that the relationship between Tiwa and Wizkid is not mere friendship.
Tiwa Savage and TeeBillz debunked the relationship rumours
As relationship rumours continued to rise, partly fueled by Tiwa and Wizkid’s teasing on stage, social media, and in music videos, Tiwa Savage felt the need to come forward and deny the rumours that she and Wizkid were more than friends.
During an interview with Soundcity Radio, Tiwa denied having a special relationship with Wizkid, stating that they are only friends. She also expressed her frustration at people who are always trying to pair her up with someone else. At this time, she was already divorced from TeeBillz.
She said: “Wizkid and I are friends, I heard all sorts of stories about Wizkid and I, but I chose to ignore them. At a point, people said I was dating Humblesmith; later they mentioned another artiste. How long will I continue to debunk these rumours? I have been in the music industry for quite a while and I have grown a thick skin, so certain rumours or insinuations don’t get to me again.”
TeeBillz also chipped in, saying that Wizkid would never disrespect him by dating Tiwa. That statement was met with a lot of derision and social media users mocked him for saying so. It did not detract Tiwa and Wizkid from continuing their relationship, however.
Wizkid’s ‘Fever’ video featuring Tiwa Savage
As was previously stated, the two first sparked relationship rumours in the video for Wizid’s ‘Fever’. In that video, the two were spotted in a position that made it look like they were kissing.
It immediately sent fans crazy, with many taking it to be a confirmation of the long-standing rumours that there was more going on between the ‘Kele Kele’ singer and Wizkid.
Now, the two have gone low-key but back then, they were the most talked about couple in the Nigerian entertainment industry. They further increased talks about them when they trended in the video for ‘Fever’.
