Allow me to bid you welcome to yet another weekend. I hope you have had a fruitful week. Any idea how you’d like to spend the weekend? It’s fine if you have nothing specific in mind yet. Here’s one thing you shouldn’t do, though, you shouldn’t have to go through the stress of figuring out ways to relax. Film and TV entertainment is always an easy answer, and with Weekend Watchlist, I’m here to plug you right on.
1. Reminiscence
“Reminiscence” is a 2021 American science fiction thriller film written and directed by Lisa Joy in her feature directorial debut. Nick Bannister (Hugh Jackman), a private investigator of the mind, navigates the darkly alluring world of the past by helping his clients access lost memories. Living on the fringes of the sunken Miami coast, his life is forever changed when he takes on a new client, Mae (Rebecca Ferguson). A simple matter of lost and found becomes a dangerous obsession. As Bannister fights to find the truth about Mae’s disappearance, he uncovers a violent conspiracy and must ultimately answer the question: how far would you go to hold on to the ones you love? The film debuts in cinemas today, 20 August 2021.
2. The Protégé
“The Protégé” is an American action thriller film directed by Martin Campbell and written by Richard Wenk. It stars Michael Keaton, Maggie Q, and Samuel L. Jackson, among others. Rescued as a child by the legendary assassin Moody (Samuel L. Jackson) and trained in the family business, Anna (Maggie Q) is the world’s most skilled contract killer. But when Moody – the man who was like a father to her and taught her everything she needs to know about trust and survival – is brutally killed, Anna vows revenge. As she becomes entangled with an enigmatic killer (Michael Keaton) whose attraction to her goes way beyond cat and mouse, their confrontation turns deadly, and the loose ends of a life spent killing will weave themselves ever tighter. “The Protégé” begins showing in cinemas on Friday, 20 August.

3. The Defeated

“The Defeated” is a German TV series that makes its Netflix debut on 20 August. Police officer Max McLoughlin arrives in Berlin in 1946 to establish a new police force in the wake of the war and hopes to find his brother, who is presumed dead. It stars Nina Hoss, Taylor Kitsch, and Mala Emde. You can enjoy the complete season 1 from the comfort of your home and with your family.
4. The Chair
“The Chair” is an academic drama series streaming on Netflix. The premise goes thus: “At a major university, the first woman of color to become chair tries to meet the dizzying demands and high expectations of a failing English department.” The complete season 1 debuts on the streaming platform today, 20 August 2021, and you won’t even have to move more than a finger to enjoy it.
5. PAW Patrol: The Movie
“PAW Patrol: The Movie” is a 2021 Canadian computer-animated adventure comedy film based on the television series PAW Patrol created by Keith Chapman. Ryder and the pups are called to Adventure City to stop Mayor Humdinger from turning the bustling metropolis into a state of chaos. Get ready for exciting missions, high-stake rescues, new pups and unique new vehicles making this the biggest Paw Patrol story ever! The film features Dax Shepard, Tyler Perry, Kim Kardashian, Iain Armitage, Cal Brunker, Randall Park, and Jimmy Kimmel. It debuts in cinemas on Friday.
