Funmi Iyanda’s: Walking With Shadows set to Screen at London

Walking With Shadows, a new film produced by Nigerian media entrepreneur, Funmi Iyanda, will premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.

The film will be screened at Curzons Soho and Vue West End, London during the October 9 and 10 respectively

Walking With Shadows is an adaptation of Jude Dibia’s 2005 book of the same title, which was awarded Sweden’s Natur och Kultur Prize. The film stars Ozzy Agu, Zainab Balogun, Wale Ojo, Funlola Aofiyebi Raimi, Adunni Ade and other actors.

Walking with Shadows synopsis: Ebele Njoku (Ozzy Agu) has been running all his life. A search for acceptance and love from his family has led him to recreate himself as Adrian – respected father, husband and brother. When his mask is cruelly stripped away, Adrian’s world rapidly unravels. Adapted from Jude Dibia’s award-winning and critically acclaimed novel, Aoife O’Kelly’s articulate and sensitive film deftly discards the sensational for a depiction of queer Nigeria presented with care and incisive observation. The film is anchored by heartfelt performances from Ozzy Agu and Zainab Balogun as Ada, Adrian’s wife. Together, they explore a painful rift in a loving bond. Adrian’s quiet resilience throughout underlines the necessity for one to be self-loving, despite the cost.

According to the popular talk show host and TV producer, the project is just first of many she has lined up.

“This is the first in a slate of films my team and l will be making,” says the popular tv host in a post on Instagram. She continues: “My determination is to expand my work from bringing information and knowledge through news and current affairs to one of bringing understanding through art, literature, film, fashion and culture. My purpose remains the same, to help make sense of our time here and hopefully make it more fun and kind, however messy it gets. Whilst doing so, l hope, as always, to create spaces for a new generation of true stars and talents as well as reposition old ones in their proper light.”
