Germany takes the driver’s seat in League A Group 4, going into their blockbuster date with fellow former world champions Spain, and N’Gonlo on target as France beat Portugal to win League A Group 3.
Germany 3-1 Ukraine
Germany went clear of Spain by a point after a resounding victory over Ukraine. Timo Werner scored a brace before Leroy Sane added a third to ease the former world champions to a 3-1 win away in Kyiv.
Ukraine took the lead with 12 minutes on the clock, before former Manchester City wide man Leroy Sane restored parity for Germany. Chelsea’s Timo Werner then turned the game on its head with a brace to snatch all three points away from the Ukrainians.
Switzerland 1-1 Spain
Sergio Ramos missed a pair of penalties as Spain were held to a draw by Switzerland, allowing Germany to go top of the group.
The Real Madrid captain overtook Gianluigi Buffon’s record to become the most capped men’s European footballer of all time on the night. However, it was one to forget as he was twice denied from the spot by Yann Sommer, causing his team a desperate end to the game where they needed a late Gerard Moreno equaliser in the 89th minute to rescue a point.
