Twitter Influencer Motara apologises after video of her mocking a beggar goes viral

A video posted on Twitter has implicated influencer, Motara, in a messy controversy. Motara was seen in the video mocking a very young girl who was begging in traffic. Subsequently, Motara issued an apology for her conduct after heavy backlash trailed her video blaming ‘stupidity’ as her excuse. 

On Sunday 22nd November 2020, a Twitter user @Dami_nairah posted a video of influencer, TheLadyMotara (@motaraaa), making fun of a beggar girl.

In the video, Motara was teasing the beggar with a plastic bottle of Fearless energy drink through the rolled up window of her car. Eventually, she laughed at the beggar before appearing to drive off. See video in tweet below:

In the video’s caption, Motara claimed to had given the beggar money in the end before leaving. However, it did not deter the barrage of condemnation and verbal abuse she received.

After a couple of hours, Motara came out with an apology. She tweeted:

I’m sorry for mocking the girl and no amount of money I would have given her would have justified what I actually did. I realized that yesterday and it has resonated again today. Sorry doesn’t fix anything but I hope it can somehow lessen the blows of my stupidity.
