The president of Turkey Tayipp Erdogan has condemned the treatment of Mesut Ozil who recently retired from international football.

Erdogan described Ozil’s situation as “unacceptable” to reporters in Parliament as he showed support for the 29-year-old.

“Such racist treatment towards a young man who has given his all to the German national team for his religious beliefs is unacceptable,” Erdogan said.

“Furthermore, how do you explain being unable to tolerate Mesut, Ilkay [Gundogan] and Cenk Tosun taking a photograph in London out of respect of their Turkish roots?
