Who doesn’t love promises kept? More so where those promises happen to be one of your favourite action-packed, futuristic-themed sci-fi films of all time.
We are talking about the infamous words – “I’ll be back!” – that Sylvester Stallone’s character the cyborg Terminator T-800 uttered during the first Terminator film. Of course, in that film, the Terminator didn’t mean well. Death was his intent. And death he and his kind continue to unleash.
That film was very successful and acclaimed by viewers and critics alike. Predictably, it spewed the Terminator franchise with several sequels to its credit. The latest is Terminator: Dark Fate, which hits the cinemas tomorrow, 1 November 2019. It is also the sixth instalment of the Terminator franchise.
Terminator: Dark Fate sees Linda Hamilton return as Sarah O’Connor, with Sylvester Stallone reprising his role as the Terminator T-800, 28 years after the actors appeared on Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
In the film, a new cyborg Terminator from the future named Rev-9 (played by Gabriel Luna) was sent by the Al Legion to kill Dani Ramos (played by Natalia Reyes), who became a target because of her connection to Sarah O’Connor and her son, John O’Connor. At the time, Dani Ramos was just living a simple life in Mexico with her elder brother Diego Ramos (Diego Boneta). To rescue her from certain death, the Human Resistance sent one of their enhanced soldiers, Grace (played by Mackenzie Davis), who travelled through time save her to avert the death.
The Rev-9 first strike was at the factory where Dani and her brother was working resulting in the death of Diego. Sarah O’Connor appeared on the scene and was able to rescue Dani and Grace.
The three women’s quest to escape and destroy Rev-9 led them to the original Terminator model T-800 (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) who was responsible for killing John. And their only hope of survival is to join forces with the enemy who was responsible for murdering Sarah O’Connor’s only son.
And in keeping with tradition, Sarah O’Connor promises: “I’ll be back,” as she walks away from the mayhem she unleashed on the Terminator.
