Tour de France rider survives horrible crash over wall at stage 16

Philippe Gilbert, 36, couldn’t bring his bike to a stop in time as he was flung into a ravine.

The ace Quick-Step rider lost control of his bike during the descent Portet-d’Aspet on the 16th stage of the race.

He immediately received medical treatment, and amazingly went on to continue the race.

The Tour de France was disrupted briefly earlier after pepper spray got in the eyes of some riders due to local farmers protests.
