It looks like it’s the season of challenges as Tonto Dikeh, one of Nollywood’s most visible actresses on social media, has started a #PAYYOURDEBTCHALLENGE challenge on Instagram.
And she kicked it off admirably by paying the debts of five people who asked her for help.
Recall that other celebrities such as Kizz Daniel and Daddy Freeze have been trending on social media for their respective challenges as well.
“So I Just paid 5 people’s debt off, who came to my dm to seek help!” She begins the caption of a photo showing what we assume are five cheques for the beneficiaries. We also assume the cheques covers “house rent, school fee, business money, children support (and) medical bill” for them.
The interesting thing about this challenge is that it is not just about paying someone’s else debt, it’s also about encouraging people to pay off their debt.
“Make a conscious effort to pay someone you owe today,” Tonto writes. “You can also help someone pay a bill today!” She says.
We are not sure what prompted Tonto to issue the challenge. But coming so close after Richard Nnadi the CEO of Escape club, took to social media to decry debtors, mostly celebrities and politicians, who had caused him to close shop due to mounting debt, we can only wonder. Nnadi had mentioned Tonto as someone who had encouraged him not to public shame his debtors.
