Today is Wednesday, October 24, the 297th day of 2018. There are 68 days left in the year.
On this day in 2013, it was reported that the Ethiopian government temporarily banned its own citizens from travelling abroad to find work.
Officials stated that the decision was made to help the welfare of the country’s citizens and reduce problems with human trafficking.

According to BBC, the foreign ministry of the country was quoted as saying: “countless Ethiopians had lost their lives or undergone untold physical and psychological trauma because of illegal human trafficking.”
The ban was lifted in February 2018 after finalising a new proclamation that protects the rights of Ethiopian employees abroad.
