The cast of The Handmaid’s Tale has been suggesting what role Drake could play in the show after author Margaret Atwood said she wanted the rapper to be in season 2.
The TV adaptation of Atwood’s classic 1985 novel premiered in April 2017, with the second season expected next month.
The Handmaid’s Tale is set in a dystopian future and stars Mad Men‘s Elisabeth Moss, Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls) and Samira Wiley (Orange Is The New Black). It was created, executively produced and written by Bruce Miller.
Following an overthrow of Congress by Christian fundamentalists, the United States has become a military dictatorship known as Gilead. Due to widespread sterility, fertile women have been forced into surrogacy for the ruling class. Others attempt to escape north to Canada.
Speaking last summer, Atwood raised the idea of fellow Canadian Drake appearing in the show, saying: “Wouldn’t it be fun for Drake to have a cameo in season two of The Handmaid’s Tale? I’ll drop that notion into the ear of Bruce Miller, the showrunner, and see what he can do with that because of course the show is filmed in Toronto. Maybe Drake could help smuggle someone?”
Atwood added: “I haven’t met Drake, but I have of course met people who have met Drake. But you have to realise how old I am. I’m not likely to go to the same parties. Or many parties at all, to be frank.”
