Shortly before deleting her account on Tuesday night, the singer posted one last tweet saying,

“Deleting my twitter soon, but before I dip, when we gonna pull up? And what we got to do to get my new hero Takiyah Thompson free?”

Thompson is 22-year-old woman who was taken into custody on Tuesday for her part in taking down a Confederate statue in Durham, North Carolina. Before her arrest she appeared at a press conference alongside other protesters and members of the communist Workers World Party.

The singer also posted a longer now deleted message on Instagram Story to shed insight into her reasoning.

“F*ck white supremacist. F*ck nazis. F*ck your stale ass bland ass monuments. F*ck asking folks to be graceful.. My son’s first day of school has been in the midst of seeing these bullst images that still tell him this system was built to be against him. How mofos supposed to have a fresh start with education, seeing this st? Thinking about demanding he not be required to take ‘American History’ because its deep dark rooted ugliness continues to live right now, right before our eyes,”
