The development is not totally unexpected after Usher, 39, last year was accused by several women of infecting them with herpes, a type of sexually transmitted infection. At the time, Miguel was quoted as saying she and her husband are “living their lives.”
A statement released by the couple partly reads:
“After much thought and consideration, we have mutually decided to separate as a couple. We remain deeply connected, loving friends who will continue supporting each other through the next phases of our lives.
“The enormous amount of love and respect that we have for each other will only increase as we move forward.”
The couple is thought to have wed in September 2015. Miguel, 48, was the singer’s manager. It is not known whether Miguel would continue as his manager, a position she has held for years.
