23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams, has given her first interview since her dramatic defeat to Naomi Osaka at the US Open final.

Serena said in an interview with Australian television program that double standards do exist in tennis.

She was given a warning for receiving coaching during the match and had complained to the umpire Carlos Ramos afterwards. Although her coach Patrick Mouratoglou has admitted that he was indeed coaching her, she has consistently denied the claims.

Speaking during the interview, Serena said: “I don’t understand what he was talking about. We’ve never had signals.”

She also spoke on ‘double standards’ in the game: “I just don’t understand. If you’re female you should be able to do even half of what a guy can do.”
