Veteran American rapper Missy Elliott is set to receive an honorary doctorate from the prestigious Berklee College of Music alongside pop royalty Justin Timberlake and conductor Alex Lacamoire.
The Berklee College Of Music made the announcement via Twitter, writing:
“ANNOUNCEMENT: @jtimberlake, @MissyElliott, and @LacketyLac to Receive Honorary Doctorates at #Berklee Commencement”
— Berklee College of Music (@BerkleeCollege) March 12, 2019
Reacting to the tweet, Missy Eliot says she’s humbled and grateful for the award.

Lacamoire says: “Being honored in this way by my alma mater means the world to me, you guys. I’m over the moon with joy and I’m psyched to be grouped with these legends! See y’all in May”
According to the school’s website, Berklee President Roger H. Brown will present Elliott, who is a five times Grammy Award winner with nominations spanning three decades, Lacamoire and Timberlake with honorary Doctor of Music degrees at Berklee College of Music’s commencement ceremony on 11 May at Boston University’s 7,000-seat Agganis Arena.
This year’s honorary doctorate recipients are being recognised for their “achievements and influences in music and for their enduring global impact.”
But that is not the only honour coming her way. Come June, Missy Elliot is also set to become the first female hip hop artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Well deserved honours, we believe.
