R. Kelly charged with bribing his way to marrying 15-year-old Aaliyah

The embattled singer is now been charged with bribing officials to obtain a marriage certificate in order for him to marry the then 15-year-old Aaliyah who is now dead.

The two got married in 1994 when R. Kelly was 27. Federal prosecutors have now added charges of bribery to his long list of charges.

Prosecutors in Brooklyn accused Kelly of bribing an employee in order to obtain a fake ID for Aaliyah that said she was 18, instead of 15.

This fake ID was then used to obtain a marriage certificate, according to prosecutors.

The new charge is an addition to a sweeping set of federal indictments filed against Kelly in July by prosecutors in New York and Illinois.

Prosecutors have accused the singer of abusing women and girls for more than two decades, including kidnapping, forced labour and sending child pornography across state lines.

Most recently, one of his girlfriends, Joycelyn Savage said the singer exhibited controlling behaviour, which matches her parents’ reports that she was being controlled in R Kelly’s custody.

Kelly has denied all allegations. His trial has been set to 24 September 2020.
