Piers Morgan related how the unlikely excellent diagnosis came about and says to “give the lady a gold star.”

Gillian Nuttall was watching a tv documentary programme Serial Killer on ITV, anchored by Morgan when she spotted an unusual mark on the tv’s host appearance. Being an expert in melanoma, a type of skin cancer, she quickly contacted the ITV star via email, the Independent reports.

Piers, at the risk of sounding like a lunatic, I’m just watching your programme and there’s a blemish on your chest. Have you had it checked?” she writes.

A concerned Morgan quickly arranged to see a healthcare professional, and a top dermatologist took one look at the mark and immediately removed it.

Much further delay, he informed me, and it might well have turned cancerous, Morgan says.

Give that lady a gold star,” he continues.

Thanks, Gillian. Oh, the irony of a serial killer inadvertently helping to save my life. Merry Christmas!,” he adds.

Nuttall has taken to social media to explain how the events unfolded.

He was interviewing a serial killer and I watched it – he had an open neck shirt on and it caught my eye,” she writes.

I stopped the TV and looked closely – it really bothered me so as I’d got his email, just thought ‘quick shove in the right direction won’t harm’.”

Nuttall founded Melanoma UK in 2007, which supports patients who have been diagnosed with the deadly form of skin cancer that’s commonly detected when a mole appears on the body.
