Omotoso's movie 'Vaya' up for an Oscar nomination in the foreign movie category

Akin Omotoso’s movie ‘Vaya‘ has been submitted by South Africa to represent the country in the foreign movie category for the 80th edition of the Academy Awards holding next year.

The award-winning Nigerian director, on Friday, tweeted the news to followers:

“Vaya is one of the films being submitted for consideration to rep SA for next years Oscars.:

 

‘Vaya’ was the most nominated (ten) movie at the 2017 edition of the African Movie Academy Award (AMAA) but won only three: Achievement in Soundtrack, Achievement in Achievement in Screenplay and Best Director .

During his acceptance speech for the best director award, the 43-year-old filmmaker had said it took eight years to produce the South African drama.

‘Vaya,’ a multiple award-winning film, was inspired by the true-life story of three strangers, who board a train bound for Johannesburg, each on their own mission.

The script was written by seven different writers and the movie was set in South Africa.

Omotoso is best known for ‘Blood Diamond,’ ‘Lord of War,’ ‘Jacob’s Cross,’ and ‘Man on Ground’.
